Bio
Areti Kotsoni is a professional architect, urbanist, and educator from Crete, Greece. She is a PhD student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the School of Architecture and Planning, pursuing a concentration in Advanced Urbanism with the MIT Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism (LCAU). Her scholarly work focuses on conflict urbanism, critical cartography, and migration, employing intersectional lenses.
Kotsoni has taught, published, lectured, and worked internationally at institutions including MIT, Columbia GSAPP, Harvard, the Architectural Association, Northeastern, Yale, and Sapienza University of Rome. Her latest peer-reviewed publications discuss urban regeneration and how marginalities shape cities, particularly in conflicted environments.
Previously, Kotsoni was a Research Associate at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD). Until recently, she served as an Adjunct at Wentworth Institute of Technology, where she taught Master of Architecture students. She was also a Visiting Scholar at the American Academy in Rome. Kotsoni holds a Diploma in Architectural Engineering from the Technical University of Crete and a Master’s in Design Studies in Urbanism, Landscape, and Ecology from Harvard GSD.
